NFPA MONTHLY SCOREBOARD
Among all the indicators of the state of the economy, fluid power is unique. Encompassing
the hydraulic technology used in mobile
markets as well as hydraulic and pneumat-
ic systems used in industrial and machine
tool applications, fluid power touches
nearly every segment of the economy as
a whole and can help identify business
trends in advance of many other signals.

The latest data published by the National
Fluid Power Association shows industry
shipments of fluid power products for
November 2012 decreased 11.3% com-
pared to November 2011, and decreased
15.2% compared to the previous month.
Mobile hydraulic, industrial hydraulic and
pneumatic shipments decreased in October
2012 when compared to October 2011. All
three market segments also decreased
when compared to the previous month.

Each point on this graph represents the most recent 12 months of orders compared to the previous 12
months of orders. Each point can be read as a percentage. For example, 104.4 (the October 2012 level of the
industrial hydraulic series) indicates that industrial hydraulic orders received from November 2011 to October
2012 were 104.4% of the orders received from November 2010 to October 2011. (Base Year 2008 = 100)

The table above is expressed in terms of cumulative percent changes. These changes refer to the
percent difference between the relevant cumulative total for 2012 and the total for the same
months in 2011. For example, the October pneumatic shipments figure of 5. 3 means that for the
calendar year through October 2012, pneumatic
shipments were up 5.3% compared to the same
time period in 2011. (Base Year 2008 = 100)
