The C6.6 ACERT is a 6. 6 L platform delivering 120 to 174 bhp and peak torque up to 609 lb.ft. at low engine speed. With this torque and low end response, Cat is positioning this en- gine for machines that currently utilize engines over 175 bhp. In April, at the Intermat show in Paris, Cat introduced two engine mod- els directly above the newest versions — the C7.1 ACERT (175 to 300 hp) and the C9.3 ACERT (275 to 410 hp). With the addition of the C3.4B, C4. 4 ACERT and C6.6 ACERT, Cat’s indus- trial Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b engine lineup now numbers 15 models. The C3.4B, C4. 4 ACERT and C6.6 ACERT will begin production and dis- tribution prior to 2012, the year that Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b emissions standards take effect for this power category of engines, Cat said. Like- wise, the C7.1 ACERT and C9.3 ACERT will be available prior to 2011, the year that Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b emissions standards take effect for that power category of engines. When completely unveiled, Cat said its Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b indus- trial engine lineup will include over 20 models from 11 to 1200 hp. dp
Caterpillar Inc. has introduced the C3.4B, C4. 4 ACERT (shown here) and the C6.6 ACERT — the three latest addi- tions to its Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b indus- trial diesel engine range. The three new models cover an output band from 60 to 174 hp.
DIESEL ENGINES Tier 4 Interim Cat Diesels Launched
Caterpillar Inc. has introduced the C3.4B, C4. 4 ACERT and C6.6 ACERT diesel engines — the three latest additions to its Tier 4 interim/Stage 3b industrial diesel en- gine range. The three new models cover an output range from 60 to 174 hp and are targeted at manufacturers of agricultural, construction, material han- dling and general industrial equipment. The new C3.4B has ratings from 60 to 115 bhp and torque up to 310 lb.ft. The engine features a common rail fuel injection system, wastegated tur- bocharger and aftercooler, and is electronically controlled. The midrange of the three new engines is the C4. 4 ACERT with ratings from 80 to 174 bhp. Cat said the 4. 4 L, four-cylinder engine has received a sig- nificant upgrade and now provides a 22% increase in power to 174 hp. Depending on the power required, it is equipped with a single or series turbocharger and has a newly de- signed head, block and common rail fuel system. The C4. 4 ACERT has torque outputs to 553 lb.ft. Cat also said the single turbocharged version is intercooled and provides im- proved power and torque, while the series turbo model delivers extra power density and faster response.
