Completely customizable and expandable, the MAC units allow users to replace individual components within the module, thus minimizing maintenance cost and unsched- uled repair time. Alexon also supplies a range of accessory products, such as radiator and fuel filler caps and metal and plastic fan shrouds. The business strategy Alexon believes has kept them on an upward track during slow economic times is its ability to meet its customers’ requests with its customized systems. “Everyone offers standard models,” said Yawapongsiri. “But we design to what the customers request.” He ex- plained that when a customer gives Alexon “an envelope of space,” it uses its experience and development capability to create the best product for that space allowance possible. A combination of a wide and diversified product line with the expertise to engineer specific solutions allows for the satis- faction of more customers, which aids in hard economic times, said Yawapongsiri. Another key to Alexon’s growth has been technology devel- opments, and the company cited the MAC as an example. The “three-faces-of-a-box” style cooling system provides high efficiency while allowing for more compact package size and reduced fan noise emissions, the company said. Alexon said another example is its manufacturing, which uses a brazing method, rather than soldering, to seal the parts of a cooling system together. In this way, each prod- uct is one piece, rather than multiple pieces melted togeth- er, Alexon said, which allows for stronger joints and an overall stronger product. “We do everything in house, so we get exactly what we are looking for,” said Grida Chiewcharat, chief of the Alexon’s engineering department. That also allows for the most preci- sion in the design and manufacturing of each and every prod- uct, Chiewcharat added. Precision has also meant an effort to be more “green,” which has been a natural for Alexon’s products produced from aluminum. Aluminum bracing is quite clean and creates no wastewater or waste output, said Alexon. The green emphasis is also being pursued by the com- pany internally, as Alexon is planning for the installation of a solar-powered absorption chiller for cooling its facilities, rather than conventional air conditioning. In Thailand, most everyone uses an air conditioner, and the country has access to more sunlight than other places in the world. The company is using a conventional air-conditioning system as it develops the solar-driven chiller concept. “Heat is ener- gy,” said Yawapongsiri. “Transferring heat from one place to another — this is our expertise.” dp

Modular Power Management For Home Standby Gen-Sets Briggs & Stratton, the exclusive licensee of GE- branded standby gen- erator sets, has intro- duced a modular power management system ex- clusively for GE residen- tial home standby power systems. The Symphony II control system is designed for affordable installation and can be customized to manage the diverse energy demands of an entire home while using a smaller, more fuel-efficient standby generator. Featuring scalable remote power controls, the new system uses the home's existing electrical wiring to establish an intelligent network between appliances and a standby generator. Briggs & Stratton said it has developed a home energy profile assessment for consumers that can identify the best solution for each home.

Resettable Electric Counters ENM has introduced the E5J series, a new line of reset- table electric counters de- signed to be more compact and easier to install. ENM said the new counters are applicable for a variety of con- trol panels or test equipment, in a range of uses. Design features include an operating life of over 100 million counts and a pushbutton reset that is located in the front for easier reset. The large, six-digit displays makes the unit easily readable, said ENM. Available models include panel mounts, base mount, bail mount, with operating voltages of 12 and 24 Vdc and 115 and 230 Vac. ENM said the counters can operate over a temperature range of 15° to 140°F.

DEF Gauges Ametek Vehicular Instruments Sys- tems (VIS) has introduced its C-COM and Next Generation Instrumentation (NGI) dashboard displays. Ametek’s CAN-Communicator (C-COM) 2G displays the current diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) level from the SAE J1939 data bus in a graphical chart format. In addition, Ametek offers a module compatible with its NGI dashboard instrumentation system two-in-one gauge that combines both fuel level data in a standard needle gauge and DEF level in a four-segment bar graph.
