MARINE ENGINES
New Marine Engines From Vetus Dutch marine engine manufac- turer Vetus has launched its VF Series engines to the U.S. market. The engines are available in four- and five-cylinder configurations rated 140 to 250 hp for planing and semi-planing boats. The VF Series engines will be sold through Vetus’ U.S. division, Vetus America, based in Hanover, Md. The engines are based on a Fiat automotive engine, which Vetus marinizes in Italy. “The launch of the VF Series diesel engine is an example of Vetus America’s commitment to creating new, cost-effective marine products of the highest quality for the U.S. con- sumer marine market,” said Jay Stockmann, Vetus America’s executive vice president. “Vetus has been selling and servicing engines and quality marine products for over 30 years in the U.S. — and the new VF Series diesel engine is just the start of great things to come for Vetus America.” Four models comprise the new VF series. The two four-cylinder inline engines are the VF4.140E and the VF4.170E models. These engines have a 1.91 L displacement, a twin camshaft, 16 valves and an electric start. Horsepower ratings are 140 and 170 hp at 4000 rpm, respectively. Torque is 215 lb.ft. at 2200 rpm and 254 lb.ft. at 2400 rpm. Bore and stroke is 82 mm x 90.4 mm. Dry weight is 584 and 608 lb. The VF5.220E and VF5.250E are five-cylinder inline engines with a twin camshaft design and electric start. The engines are rated 225 and 250 hp at 4200 rpm and have a 2. 39 L dis- placement. Bore and stroke is 82 mm x 90.4 mm. Torque is 296 lb.ft. at 2400 rpm and 335 lb.ft. at 2600 rpm. Dry weight is 721 lb. with gearbox. All four engines meet EU 2006 emissions regulations and U.S. EPA Tier 2 requirements. They have an indirect cooling system with heat exchanger and incorporate Garrett variable geometry turbos. The turbos are designed to provide a power boost through the entire rpm range, versus only on higher rpm ranges. The common rail fuel injection uses mechanical high-pressure pumps to deliver fuel at pressure levels over
