New Engines The Paccar MX engine, introduced to North America in 2010, is designed for Kenworth and Peterbilt truck cus- tomers. The Paccar MX engine has an output range of 380 to 485 hp and torque outputs up to 1750 lb.ft. MX engine production in North America begins this year at Paccar’s new engine facility in Columbus, Miss. The Paccar MX engine has completed over 50 million North American field test miles, the company said, and in addi- tion has completed evaluation in hot and cold temperature extremes, high altitudes and vocational applications. Paccar said it was among the pio- neers in the design and manufacture of high-strength compacted graphite iron (CGI), and the MX engine utilizes CGI in both the engine block and cylinder head. This premium material is durable and light — resulting in optimized power-to-weight perform- ance, Paccar said. Other design features include the electronically controlled high-pres- sure fuel injection system that deliv- ers the fuel economy benefits and assists in achieving the emissions required by the EPA. Paccar also said that the engine’s block design and rear geartrain contribute to lower in- cab noise levels. The integral engine brake provides performance across a broad range of engine speeds. The MX engines are supported by Kenworth and Peterbilt dealers at more than 670 service locations in North America. The dealerships have certi- fied Paccar MX trained technicians and a complete inventory of service parts.
