be created and displayed include bitmaps, bar graphs, static text, dynamic text, graphic primitives and group objects. Bar graph objects and dynamic text objects can source real-time data from J1939 suspect parameter numbers. Group objects associate several objects so they can be displayed with a single J1939 message. Group objects are hierarchical and can include other group objects. This allows for display- ing multiple parameters simultane-
ously, Grayhill said.
Further, the MicroDisplay can be
used as a simple terminal to display
objects directly from the vehicle’s
ECU, such as fault or service messages. Using the four pushbuttons
on the device, the vehicle operator
can select the information to present
from up to 50 objects loaded in the

Grayhill Inc. has announced the release of its 3D Series MicroDisplay for monitoring data on CANbus-connected off-highway vehicles. The LaGrange, Ill.,
manufacturer said the display device
was designed to create screens with
custom graphics, text and gauges
that automatically adjust based on
SAE J1939 values.
Because the MicroDisplay is controlled via J1939 commands, native
coding is not required, Grayhill said.
Screens are created with an included software tool and commands are
received from the vehicle’s engine
control unit (ECU). The MicroDisplay
is applicable for displaying gauge
data, alert messages, diagnostics,
clocks/hourmeter, maintenance info,
machine setups and instructions.
All information shown on the
MicroDisplay are objects controlled
by the vehicle ECU. Custom graphics, screens and groups of objects
can be created using MicroDisplay’s
Windows PC-based tool. These
objects are either preloaded into the
MicroDisplay or can be updated from
the vehicle’s ECU. Objects that can
