In an effort to increase operator safety, JCB incorporated a side-door entry that is 40% larger than previous models to its new generation
of loaders, as well as a forward tilting cab that allows for easier access to maintenance points underneath the frame.
The 260, 280 and 260T machines
are powered by 4. 3 L JCB Dieselmax
TC- 63 diesel engines rated 84 hp at
2400 rpm, while the 300, 330 and
320T models are powered by JCB
Dieselmax TC-68 diesels, which also
carry a 4. 3 L displacement, rated 92
hp at 2400 rpm. The engines are Tier
3 and Stage 3b certified, and JCB
said they are Tier 4 capable without
aftertreatment.
The cooling system for the loaders incorporates an AKG radiator/
hydraulic oil cooler module, along
with a hydraulically driven fan with
integrated speed control valve, fan
control software, fan cowl, hoses and
fittings, case drain tube and structural
brackets and supports.
The engines directly drive two-speed
Bosch Rexroth hydrostatic transmissions that power independent hydraulic motors that power the left and
right side wheels or tracks. Auxiliary
hydraulic functions are based on 23
gpm Bosch Rexroth gear pumps and
motors. An optional high-flow circuit
rated 35. 7 gpm is available to provide
flow to the front of the machine to
drive attachments such as trenchers
and cold planers. Other hydraulic
components include Parker Hannifin
hoses and Parker O-ring face seal
technology hydraulic fittings.
One of the most immediately notice-
able aspects of the new machines is
the JCB PowerBoom single-arm con-
figuration. “People see the single arm
and think that it can’t be as strong as
a twin-arm machine,” said George
Chaney, product manager for skid-
steer and compact track loaders at
JCB. “However, in comparison, our
machines have 20% more steel than
competitive models.”
The rated operating capacity of the
loaders ranges from 2600 to 3300 lb.,
which when paired with the vertical lift
design and up to 0.84 cu.yd. standard
bucket capacity, allows for easier
loading of high-side trucks, among
other applications, the company said.
