needed generators with three different generating capacities.
One station needed a 1000 k W gen-set to power up to four,
250 hp motors, while another station required a 1500 kW
gen-set to power up to four, 450 hp motors. The third station
needed a 1750 k W gen-set for up to four, 600 hp motors.
The 1000 kW gen-set is driven by a 31. 8 L, MTU Detroit
Diesel 16V2000 G84 engine rated 1495 bhp at 1800 rpm. The
engine has a bore and stroke of 130 mm x 150 mm. The 1500
k W gen-set is driven by a 57. 2 L, MTU Detroit Diesel 12V4000
G43 engine rated 2328 bhp at 1800 rpm. The engine has a
bore and stroke of 170 mm x 210 mm. The 1750 kW gen-
set is driven by a 57. 2 L, MTU Detroit Diesel 12V4000 G83
engine rated 2561 bhp at 1800 rpm. The engine has a bore
and stroke of 170 mm x 210 mm.

All three engines include an ADEC electric isochronous
governor and a dry-type air cleaner, as well as an oil pump,
full-flow oil filter, jacket water pump, intercooler water pump,
a closed crankcase ventilation system, a blower fan and fan
drive, a unit-mounted radiator, a 24 V electric starting motor
and a 24 V charging alternator.
Precision Safety Screens
The cooling system on the 1000 kW and 1750 kW gen-
sets consists of the engine-driven fan, a radiator with an
ambient capacity of 122°F, a water pump with a 220 gpm
capacity and an after-cooler pump capacity of 68 gpm.
The 1500 kW gen-set cooling system has an engine-
driven fan, a radiator with an ambient capacity of 104°F, a
water pump with a 295 gpm capacity and an after-cooler
pump capacity of 154 gpm.
