As presently most seals are
developed through empirical means,
understanding the viscoelastic prop-
erties of the seals at such a precise
level has allowed the team to devel-
op and test several seal designs.
One included a U-cup seal, which
was tested at Eaton Corp., a CCEFP
industrial partner. According to the
team, the results showed zero leak-
age over the entire range, which were
verified upon further examination at
Georgia Tech.
