Along with its new diesel aftertreatment products, PurePOWER’s product line includes fuel
systems, emissions-related engine components such as hot side EGR valves, actuators
and intake throttles, and metal castings.
of keeping the responsibility for emissions control on the side of the manufacturer and not put additional burdens
on vehicle and equipment owners,
drivers and maintainers,” according to John Cagney, vice president,
advanced technology and engineering
for PurePOWER Technologies.
According to Andy Kratky, direc-
tor of business development for
PurePOWER Technologies, “The
system is scalable and can be sized
for regular service intervals.”
In addition, Kratky indicated that
the solid reductant cartridges “will be
available where the vehicles are serv-
iced — dealers, at fleets that perform
maintenance in their own vehicles,
truck stops, etc.”
Kratky said the PurePOWER NOx
reduction system is now being indus-
trialized “and will be available in high
volume soon.” PurePOWER will man-
ufacture some of the components
and will be responsible for assembly
and test of the complete system,
Kratky added.
“PurePOWER is offering aftertreatment solutions for different market
segments and emissions standards
based on its own design and manufacturing capabilities, as well as the
ability to leverage its partnerships with
key component suppliers,” he noted.
The move to establish aftertreat-
ment systems as a business clear-
ly has major implications for par-
ent company Navistar. Currently the
only heavy-duty truck manufacturer in
North America not using urea-based
SCR to meet the EPA’s stringent 2010
emissions regulations, Navistar has
continued along the path of enhanced
exhaust gas recirculation and earned
emissions credits to achieve compli-
ance. It recently announced that it had
received certification from the EPA
for its 2011 model-year MaxxForce
DT midrange diesel engine at 0.39 g/
bhp-hr NOx using its in-cylinder NOx
reduction technology and credits.
Navistar also said it received EPA
and the California Air Resources
Board (CARB) certification for its 2011
MaxxForce 15 big-bore diesel and
has submitted its MaxxForce 13 at
0.20 g NOx for EPA certification.
