Last June, Caterpillar Emissions Solutions signed a
definitive agreement to purchase CleanAIR Systems Inc.,
now a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. within the
Customer Services Support Division. CleanAIR Systems
designs and manufactures customized stationary aftertreatment solutions for internal combustion engines. The
broad product line includes California Air Resources Board
(CARB) verified particulate filters, oxidation catalysts and
silencers as well as a hybrid selective catalytic reduction/
particulate filter/silencer system.
Parts-Service-Warranty-Distribution
Caterpillar reached an agreement to sell Carter
Machinery Co. Inc., a Caterpillar dealership in Salem,
Va., with operations and stores covering Virginia and nine
counties in southeast West Virginia.
The current senior management of Carter Machinery,
which led the buyout of Carter Machinery from Caterpillar,
will remain in place. Jim Parker, a retired Caterpillar vice
president, will become CEO of Carter Machinery and will
be the principal owner going forward. Caterpillar had owned
Carter Machinery since 1988 and was the only Caterpillar
dealership in the United States not independently owned.
Cat Insurance has introduced Component Plus
Extended Service Coverage (ESC), which covers Cat
on-highway engine parts for up to four years. Component
Plus ESC is available to anyone who purchases qualified
parts at authorized Cat dealers — even if the parts are
not installed by the dealer.
Corporate Developments
In one of its many deals in 2010, Caterpillar Inc. signed
an agreement in October 2010 to purchase MWM Holding
GmbH from 3i in a E580 million (approximately $810 million)
cash deal. The acquisition of MWM remains pending, subject
to regulatory approval. Based in Mannheim, Germany, MWM
is a global supplier of diesel and gas engines.
