delivers a new top rating of 675 hp, 75
hp above the Tier 4 interim maximum.
The QSX11.9 engine, which shares
the same aftertreatment technology
as the 15 L, also increases power
output for Tier 4 final with a new top
rating of 525 hp.

New Engines
At ConExpo, Cummins unveiled its
latest-generation Tier 4 final technology for the 75 to 3000 hp range. For
engines ranging from 75 to 400 hp,
the company will use an aftertreatment system, combining the Cummins
Compact Catalyst, a passive, flow-though catalyst previously sized for
ratings below 174 hp, with selective
catalytic reduction (CCC-SCR). The
CCC-SCR aftertreatment system will
be used on the Tier 4 final QSB3.3,
QSB4.5, QSB6.7 and QSB9 engines
as the scalability of the system enables
sizing to be configured for specific
power outputs across a broad output
range, Cummins said.
Ouside of the aftertreatment systems, the Tier 4 final engines are
nearly identical to Tier 4 versions,
Cummins said, with no significant
change required for engine systems or installation profile. At Tier
4 interim 2011 emissions levels, the
engines are capable of achieving
up to 5% improved fuel efficiency
compared to Tier 3, depending on
duty cycle and machine optimization, Cummins said. Fuel efficiency
will be further increased for Tier 4
final 2014 by an additional 2 to 3%,
Cummins added.
For Tier 4 final between 300 and 675
hp, Cummins said its QSX11.9 and
QSX15 engines will meet the 2014
standards while providing increased
