New Engines
Late last year, MAN premiered its E2876 LE 202 gas-fueled engine, developed especially for efficient biogas
operation using special gases with only 50% methane
content.
The six-cylinder, inline engine is based on the
E2876 series, with outputs of 295 hp in 50 Hz operation. It is equipped with a single-stage exhaust turbocharger as well as two-stage cooling of the boost
mixture, with high- and low-temperature circuits, the
company said.
MAN also extended its range of marine engines
for the workboat market with the launch of the
D2862 LE463 diesel, a V12 engine with outputs to
1400 hp.
Power Range
Diesel: 30 to 12,200 hp
Gaseous Fuel: 34 to 536 hp (gen-sets only)
New Engines
MTU has provided a look
at the present and future by
unveiling Tier 4 interim and
Tier 4 final engines across
several key construction and
industrial (C&I) power bands.
For engines up to 750 bhp,
MTU has launched Series
400, 500 and 900 Tier 4
interim engines using SCR.
The engines are based on
The company also unveiled Tier 4 final versions of its Series
1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines that will utilize SCR and
EGR. These Tier 4 final engines may also incorporate DPFs,
but the company said its goal — which is close to being validated — is to meet the Tier 4 final requirements without DPFs.
This, MTU said, would result in significant space and weight
savings on machines and equipment.
In the meantime, by showing its Tier 4 final technology
now — the final standards take effect in 2014 — MTU said
OEMs would have ample time to adapt their applications
for the new engines. Tier 4 final engine designs will also
deliver additional benefits, the company said, including
a further 5% reduction in fuel consumption, durability
