drivers in collision, rollover and loss-of-control situations by reducing the
throttle and applying the brakes on
the steer, trailer and drive axles.
Building the collision mitigation technology on a full stability system provides drivers with additional braking
power and even brake distribution,
Andersky said.
Roll-only systems normally don’t
apply steer axle brakes, while colli-
sion mitigation systems built on roll-
only technology may rely heavily on
one set of brakes, resulting in an
uneven distribution of braking power
when the collision mitigation technol-
ogy intervenes, Bendix said. With
ESP, all of the truck’s brakes — steer,
drive and trailer axles — can be con-
trolled and are available for optimal
braking power and even braking dis-
tribution, the company said.
