A NEW “LINC” IN
WELDER CHAIN
Lincoln Electric adds SAE-300 for pipeline welding,
construction and maintenance applications
BY KYLE KOPPLIN
Lincoln Electric Co., Cleveland, Ohio, has expanded its engine- driven welder line with the
addition of a new model specifically
designed for pipeline welding, construction and maintenance applications. The SAE-300 is powered by a
water-cooled, Tier 4 interim Perkins
404D- 22 diesel engine rated 32. 7 hp
at 1800 rpm that drives a Lincoln-built
generator producing up to 350 Amp
for dc stick, TIG and MIG welding, as
well as up to 3 k W of ac power.
The welder incorporates a top-mounted exhaust system; and with a
sound rating of 73 dB(A) at 23 ft., it is
designed for use in myriad construction and maintenance applications.
“We are aiming this product primarily at pipeline welders,” said Eric
Snyder, senior product manager
of Engine Driven Welders, Lincoln
Electric, “however, the unit is not limited to this application.
“What’s different about this product
from our traditional offerings is that it
features our Dual Continuous Control
system. This system allows the user
to more precisely dial in the arc they
want for the work they are doing,
which will not only increase the speed
at which work is done, but also the
quality of the work.”
The SAE-300’s dc generator weld-
ing output is produced by a rotat-
ing armature/field coil system, which
incorporates all-copper windings and
is used in Lincoln’s other welder mod-
els. Its 115 and 230 Vac duplex recep-
tacles provide access to as much as 3
k W of power for tools such as grinders,
power tools and lights. A front panel
incorporates weather-protected gaug-
es for oil pressure and engine temper-
ature, as well as an engine hourmeter
and battery charging ammeter.
