Following the announcement of the recent restructuring of its business areas and the
addition of a fourth business segment (Construction Technique) for
portable compressors and generators, road construction equipment
and construction tools, Atlas Copco
recently acquired Spanish generator manufacturer Grupo Electrógenos
Gesan S.A. The acquisition, for which
no financial details were provided, further expands Atlas Copco’s Portable
Technique power generation family.
“Together with Gesan, we can offer
a full range of generators for all kinds
of applications and we look forward to
building relationships with new cus-
tomers and distributors,” said Ronnie
Leten, president and CEO of Atlas
Copco. “Gesan complements Atlas
Copco’s generator business very well
geographically and in terms of the
value proposition. We also expect
synergies in sales, service, purchas-
ing and manufacturing.”
Gesan, headquartered in Zaragoza,
Spain, produces portable and station-
ary diesel and gasoline generators
as well as a line of welders and light
towers. The company has a distribu-

and Russia.
A privately owned company, Gesan
had 2010 revenues of $79 million.
The company employs about 160
people and also has production and
assembly facilities in Zaragoza.
Its generators are used for primary
power and for standby purposes,
ranging in sizes up to nearly twice
as high as Atlas Copco’s previous
offerings, which ranged from 13. 7

Kubota, John Deere and Volvo diesel

Vanguard gasoline engines rated to
5. 5 to 26 hp at 3000 rpm. The gen-sets
are single-phase, 230 V and three-phase 400/230 V units, all of which are
targeted toward job-site applications,
where they can power work tools such
as drills, radials, hammers, cutting-off
machines, etc.
The company’s gasoline-powered
welder-generators are also powered
by Honda GX or Briggs & Stratton
Vanguard engines rated to 9 to 13
hp. The welders are available in 170

Gesan’s diesel-powered portable
generator sets range from 4 to 30
kVA and are driven by Lombardini
