POWER GENERATION
The 60 MW power plant at a U.S. Air Force
base in Afghanistan designed and supplied by Enginuity Portable Grid (EPG),
together with Mid-America Engine Inc. The
site includes 10 EPG CQ-2000 diesel power
modules and four Solar Turbine Titan 130
gas turbine generator sets.
PROVIDING POWER
FOR THE TROOPS
EPG, Mid-America Engine supply 60 MW power plant for U.S.
Air Force base in Afghanistan
Enginuity Portable Grid(EPG), together with Mid-America Engine Inc., provided the
conceptual design and installed a
60 MW power plant for a U.S. Air
Force base in Afghanistan. Together,
the two companies supplied EPG-built diesel-powered gen-set power
modules and gas turbine generators
by Solar Turbines Inc. to provide
utility-grade power for the entire Air
Force base, supporting air base and
ground troop operations.
The growing demand for power at
the facility produced many challenges
for Mid-America Engine, as the com-
pany said the U.S. military wanted
a true utility-grade solution that pro-
vided both reliability and redundancy
in a central location. The challenge for
EPG and Mid-America Engine was to
meet this demand, given the extreme
weather conditions at the 4000 ft. site
where temperatures regularly exceed
120°F in the summer.
