One of the potential emerging
technologies Concentric has
in its portfolio is the Energy
Management System (EMS)
powertrain technology. EMS
is designed to convert vehicle
or implement kinetic energy to
fluid energy during the braking
and implement lowering cycles
and simultaneously uses it for
other functions or stores it.
closely at how to move things forward
over the next five years or so, the
demerger made more sense.
“We decided to keep the Concentric
name because we thought it was
a very high risk to try and create a
brand new brand name from scratch.
Concentric is well known in the engine
business and we’ve got to build that
brand recognition up in the hydraulics
industry.”
Woolley said Concentric AB had
sales of over $300 million in 2010,
with ongoing investments in global
infrastructure and continued emis-
sions technology investments as
major drivers for future growth.
He said there will be little change
to the management and structure
of Concentric AB from Hydraulic
Systems. “We will continue with two
regional organizations — Americas
and Europe/China,” Woolley said. “A
number of functions globally, such as
engineering, will be split into hydrau-
lics and engines and located at five
or six plants. Hydraulic engineering
will be headquartered in Rockford,
engine engineering in the U.K., but
also spread around the world.”
The main centers of manufacturing,
application and product engineering
are in Birmingham, U.K.; Itasca and
Rockford, Ill.; Hof, Germany; Skånes
Fagerhult, Sweden; Pune, India; and
Suzhou, China.
“As a stand-alone company, what
we now bring is a global manufac-
turing base for both engines and
hydraulics,” Woolley said. “We have
the global ability to build wherever our
customers are. If they want us to build
something in four plants, we can build
it in four plants.
