DAF Buys Part Of Tatra, Announces Supply

DAF Trucks said it will supply engines and cabs to the Czech truck maker Tatra for a new
range of off-highway trucks to be sold
throughout Europe. DAF has also acquired a 19% stake in Tatra, Kopøivnice,
Czech Republic.
The new vehicles will also be sold by
DAF dealers. DAF will supply PACCAR
MX 12. 9 L diesel engines and DAF CF
cabs with deliveries scheduled to begin
this year. The engines are built by DAF
in Eindhoven, Netherlands, while the
cabs are produced in DAF’s Westerlo,
Belgium, factory.
Navistar International Corp. said
it will close its Chatham, Ontario, Canada, truck manufacturing operation
and will rationalize its RV and chassis
businesses. The Chatham facility has
been idled since 2009 and employees
have been on layoff status for the past
two years. Chatham production has already been absorbed by other Navistar
truck plants.
A raft of Caterpillar Inc. news this
month. First, Cat said it plans to open a
new 193,750 sq.ft. facility that will eventually employ about 400 people in Xuzhou,
Jiangsu Province, China, to produce undercarriage components and track assemblies for Cat hydraulic excavators.
The new facility will be located adjacent
to the Caterpillar Xuzhou Ltd. hydraulic
excavator facility, allowing shipment of
finished undercarriage components to
the Caterpillar machine facility for final assembly. Construction will begin this year,
with production scheduled for mid-2012.
Cat also said it will expand its re-
manufacturing facility in West Fargo,
N.D., to meet demand for remanufac-
tured drivetrain components for large
off-highway trucks and other mining
equipment, including final drives, trans-
missions, torque convertors and steer-
ing clutches.
