AIMING TO RELIEVE
TENSION HEADACHES
New compact track loaders from Gehl and Mustang incorporate new track
tensioning system
BY KYLE KOPPLIN
Operators of equipment such as compact track loaders (CTLs) can spend countless
hours over the life of their machines
prying and prodding to ensure that the
track system maintains the proper tension for the most efficient and effective
performance. In an effort to relieve such
tension headaches, Manitou Americas
Inc. has launched new Mustang CTLs
that incorporate a new automatic track
tensioning system that the company
said maintains the appropriate track
tension and increases the life of key
undercarriage components. The system will also be used on Manitou’s
Gehl-branded machines.
“According to track and undercar-
riage manufacturers, one of the big-
gest causes of premature track and
undercarriage component failure is
improper track tensioning,” said Bob
Claas, design engineering manager,
Gehl. The new HydraTrac system
is designed to automatically adjust
the track tension at engine start-up
and shutdown.
