ACCESSORY PRODUCTS
The 2. 3 version of Trimble’s VisionLink software incorporates 3D Project Monitoring, which shows (left) how much cut, fill, surplus or
deficit and total volume of material has been moved and calculates the area covered. It displays material density (right), allowing a quick
identification of areas that have been undercompacted, overcompacted or properly compacted.
A New Vision In Telematics
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Trimble has introduced version 2. 3 of its VisionLink software. The
web-based construction application is
designed to integrate asset and fleet
management services with a new 3-D
project monitoring functionality and
production output tools. The software
combines earthmoving, grading, finishing, compaction and asset and
fleet management operations into one
application, Trimble said.
By using VisionLink, contractors
can track earthworks and compaction
progress remotely — providing them
all the information on their machine in
one place. This, Trimble said, allows
contractors to make faster decisions,
lower operating costs, reduce project
risks as well as increase productivity.
The VisionLink software incorporates Trimble’s SNM940 Connected
Site Gateway to transmit information
between the machine and the user’s
computer. Precise location and production data from the machine are
sent to VisionLink at the contractor’s
office while design data and machine
configuration files are sent directly to
the machine.
Using VisionLink with the SNM940
Gateway for two-way data transfer
eliminates drive time between locations to exchange information, said
Trimble. This data and design information can also be shared between
Trimble’s Business Center — HCE
data management and preparation
software, VisionLink and the machine
control system — ensuring the same
information can be used by all parties
on the project simultaneously.
The SNM940 Gateway can also be
used to receive GPS correction information for high-accuracy positioning
with Trimble’s GPS-based machine
control systems. This is designed
to reduce the need for additional
GPS systems on a construction site,
Trimble said, providing additional flexibility and GPS range.
Also included in the suite is the
VisionLink 3D Project Monitoring,
which gives contractors insight into
the overall project progress through
continuous monitoring and recording
of machine blade or bucket position
along with other machine control infor-
mation. It creates a production model
showing progress over time and a
comprehensive production model that
includes position, elevation and time
used to report surface elevations, cut
and fill maps, and earthworks vol-
umes throughout the project.
