Super Single Tires
Goodyear has introduced
the G278 MSD, a single tire
that replaces the company’s
G178 Super Single tire. The
G278, designed for on- and
off-highway applications, such
as construction, concrete and
logging, features a 1 in. larger
footprint, deeper tread depth
and special compounding to
provide better mileage ben-
efits, Goodyear said. The tire,
available in 385, 425 and 445/65R sizes in 22. 5 in. also has a
rugged criss-cross tread designed to pump away water from
the tread for improved traction. Interlocking groove protectors
in the tire also help keep stones from imbedding and drilling into
the tread, while the special compounding resists cuts, chips and
tears, according to the company.

Automated Transmission Line Expanded
Eaton Corp. has announced several expansions to its UltraShift
Plus line of automated transmissions, including two vocational
platforms, additional application approvals within a multipurpose
platform and a lower range of torque for its linehaul platform.
The UltraShift Plus vocational platforms include the Vocational
Active Shifting (VAS) and Vocational High Performance (VHP)
models, both designed for linehaul vocational use. The 10-speed
VAS platform is available between 1050 and 1650 lb.ft. as well
as with multi-torque and the 13-speed VHP platform is available
in models ranging between 1650 and 2050 lb.ft., Eaton said.
Eaton has also released lower torque models of the Vocational
Construction Series (VCS) and Vocational Multipurpose Series
(VMS) transmissions to include 1050 and 1250 lb.ft. versions.
The Multipurpose Extreme Performance (MXP) UltraShift Plus
automated transmission has also been approved for additional
applications. It is based upon the Fuller Super 18-speed trans-
mission and has unlimited gross combination weight ratings and
torques up to 2250 lb.ft., the company said.
