ALTRA INDUSTRIAL MOTION
Altra Industrial Motion’s Ameridrives
couplings are now offered with the full
line of Ameriloc Torsiflex-i internal
and external shaft locking devices
and shaft couplings. All units are cus-
tom engineered, manufactured and
tested to precise tolerances to meet
specific customer requirements and
trouble-free service, Altra said.
The couplings eliminate the need
for keyways, splines or hydraulic
hubs, allowing for unlimited shaft posi-
tioning, the company said. Installation
and removal is designed to be easy
using standard tools. Features include
zero backlash, reduced shaft stress
and high contact pressure for greater
torque. Tight contact prevents con-
tamination in high dust and moisture
environments. Applications include oil
and gas pump installations, including
offshore platforms, oil and gas refiner-
ies, and processing facilities.
Ameriloc shaft locking devices available
with Altra’s Ameridrives couplings.
The couplings also feature a robust
disc pack design, which the company
said allows for a greater torque load in
a smaller size — also resulting in lower
weight. Both the lower weight and lon-
ger bearing life are engineered to yield
a lower cost per application, Altra said.
The couplings have maximum bores
that are matched to NEMA motor
shafts. This provides up to a 60%
weight savings, Altra said. A plug-in
spacer design allows installation and
removal without disturbing the hubs.
All models are Atex compliant and
come standard with a zinc phosphate
coating, a built-in anti-flail feature and
inch series hub attachment screws.
Metric sizes are also available.
Altra’s Ameriloc shaft locking devic-
es are used on compressors, pumps,
turbines, couplings and fans. They
have a torque rating from 25,000 to
4,303,675 lb.ft. Outer diameters are
available from 12. 5 to 53 in. Shaft
