48 kW natural gaseous-fueled gen-set, updated 14 and 20 k W units target
residential, light commercial markets
Kohler Power Systems has announced the launch of a series of new and updated
products targeting the residential and
light commercial markets. Heading
that list is a new 48 kW gaseous-fueled generator set and updated 14
and 20 k W gen-sets.
The new 48RCL gen-set is a 48
k W unit that is designed to serve as a
whole-house generator that provides
complete protection for 200 Amp
electrical service, while maintaining
a small footprint and low sound emissions, the company said. It is available in both 60 and 50 Hz configurations, with the 60 Hz units designed
to conform to the EPA’s New Source
Performance Standard (NSPS) for
stationary spark-ignited emissions.
UL 2200 and CSA certifications are
also available for the 60 Hz units, the
company said.
Ratings for the 60 Hz units are 48
kW (120/208 V and 277/480 V), 46
kW (120/240 V) three-phase, with
a single-phase 48 kW (120/240 V)
rating also available. The 50 Hz configurations are 38 k W, with a standard
factory voltage of 230/400 V and field-adjustable voltages of 220/380 V and
240/416 V available.
The gen-sets are powered by naturally aspirated, liquid-cooled 5.0 L
GM Vortec V8 engines that deliver a
maximum rating of 89 hp at 1800 rpm.
The engines utilize a closed-loop fuel
control and can operate on natural
gas or LP, Kohler said.
The engines drive Kohler 4P7BX
brushless, rotating field rare earth per-
manent magnet alternators that incor-
porate the company’s Fast-Response
X excitation system designed to pro-
vide good voltage response and short-
circuit capability. The alternators can
accommodate sustained short-circuit
currents up to 300% of the rated cur-
rent for up to 10 seconds, which allows
downstream circuit breakers to trip
without collapsing the alternator field,
the company said.
