POWER GENERATION
Each trailer is equipped with a Transcube 20TCG transportable diesel fuel tank. The tanks
are designed with an outer wall that provides 110% secondary containment of an inner fuel
container’s total capacity. They are UL 142 certified for safe fuel storage and Department of
Transportation (DOT) approved for road transport while full.
Neumann was referred to Butler
Machinery, the Caterpillar equipment
dealer that serves both North and
South Dakota. “We knew up front that
the cost and delivery of diesel was a
concern,” said Bruce Leiseth, power
systems division account manager for
Butler. “A less expensive and more
convenient option would have been
to run a generator off of wellhead
gas. The potential problem with that,
however, is that if there are any inter-
ruptions in the gas line, the generator
can’t run and you lose electricity.”
In evaluating the various aspects of
the project, Butler essentially sought
out a solution that could address each
challenge WPX Energy was facing.
This led to the development of a trail-
er package that included a Caterpillar
generator. Butler currently has 35 of the
trailer packages out on long-term rental
with WPX Energy, and that number
may climb to 50 by the end of 2012.
