Member Recognition Awards
The Leroy H. Carpenter Award is given annually to honor an individual for long and outstanding service to the Association. It was first given in
1972 and was later named in honor of Leroy H. (Roy) Carpenter after his untimely death during an EGSA convention.
Leroy Carpenter was Manager of Quality & Electrical Test for Fermont Corp. of Bridgeport, CT. He was very active in EGSA and was Chairman
of the Convention Planning Committee. He was also very active in the Government Liaison Committee and served as Vice Chairman (1971-
72) and served on the Military Standards Sub-Committee.
2011 Carpenter Award Recipient - Warner Bauer Mr. Warner Bauer is our 2011 Leroy H. Carpenter Award recipient and as this award exemplifies long and outstanding service to the Association, this year’s recipient has certainly met and exceeded that standard. Warner has been an active member of EGSA for almost 40 years. As an active member since 1982, he served on the Board of Directors twice, was the 2008 EGSA President and was also recipient of the William Timmler Award in 1993. He has also authored a chapter of the On-Site Power Generation: A Reference Manual. Warner began his career working for St. Louis Shipping in 1959 where he was hired to work in the ship yards. Six months later, he was transferred to the Engineering & Controls division of St. Louis Shipping. He eventually became President of Engineering Controls, buying the company from St. Louis Shipping in the mid-1980s. Warner is currently the Vice President of the Vaporphase Division of Kickham Boiler & Engineering, a family-owned company that designs, fabricates, erects and repairs Boilers, Pressure Vessels, Reactors, Columns, Stacks, Tanks, Weldments and more in
St Louis, MO.
THE GORDON JOHNSON AWARD
Established in 1994, The Gordon
Established in 2009, The President’s Award is given on an as
needed basis to honor an individual who has volunteered their
time and energy to the betterment of the Association and the
industry through a specific project or endeavor. This “Above and
Beyond the Call” award is only given to those individuals who
have provided exceptional service and dedication in carrying a
single project from its inception to its launch.

with the On-Site Power Generation
school since its inception in 1983
and received The Timmler award, in
1989, for his work on the Education
Committee. He has authored two
chapters of the On-Site Power
Reference Book, as well as a
number of technical articles for EGSA’s Powerline Magazine.
On top of Jim’s impressive EGSA resume, we have an award
that bears his name, The James Wright Award, that was created
to honor individuals who have devoted their energies to the
betterment of the Association’s education programs. He was also
honored in 1992, when he received The Carpenter Award for
long and outstanding service to EGSA. While he has retired, Jim’s
dedication and undying commitment to EGSA has influenced the
Association’s direction and focus and for that, he wins the 2011
EGSA President’s Award, presented by John Kelly, Jr. The James Wright Educator Award is given on an as-needed basis to
